Ketamine Integration Therapy

Research over the last two decades has established ketamine as a safe, effective, fast-acting, and sustained antidepressant that significantly reduces adverse symptoms associated with depression, even in individuals where nothing else has worked or everything else has stopped working. This is because ketamine is different in several important ways. Unlike traditional psychiatric antidepressants, ketamine does not have a limited window of effectiveness.

To get the full benefit from ketamine therapy, individuals need to take advantage of the period of enhanced neuroplasticity just after the treatment by reflecting back and contemplating on the experience. Exploring the insights that are gained during the treatment and then putting them into practice is how new neural connections and pathways are formed that can dramatically improve mental wellbeing. On its own, a single ketamine treatment can produce effects that improve mental health for weeks at a time. But if you pair ketamine treatments with meaningful integration practices, the effects can last even longer; sometimes these effects are permanent.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ketamine Integration Therapy

Ketamine integration therapy is the structured process of reflecting on, processing, and applying the insights gained during ketamine treatment sessions. Research shows that ketamine opens a window of enhanced neuroplasticity after each treatment. Integration therapy takes advantage of this window by helping you explore what emerged during the experience and put those insights into practice, forming new neural connections and pathways that can dramatically improve mental wellbeing.
On its own, a single ketamine treatment can produce effects that improve mental health for weeks at a time. But when paired with meaningful integration practices, the effects can last much longer and sometimes become permanent. Without integration, the period of enhanced neuroplasticity passes without being fully utilized. Integration therapy ensures you are actively building on the changes that ketamine makes possible.
We offer three integration packages: a 4-session package ($900) covering the essentials of integration, an 8-session package ($1,600) for a deeper dive into integration and healing, and a 12-session package ($2,100) that allows you to take full advantage of the neuroplasticity window and experience the true power of holistic healing and growth. All packages include weekly 60-minute sessions, integrative exercises, and personal weekly assignments.
AHWI Psychology Group and the Charlottesville Ketamine Center use the THRIVE Model of Psychedelic Integration to guide all ketamine integration services. THRIVE is a peer-reviewed, six-dimensional framework that addresses nature connection, physical health, relationships, internal self, values, and existential meaning. This ensures that integration work covers every area of life that ketamine treatment can positively affect, rather than focusing narrowly on symptom relief alone.
Each 60-minute session includes guided reflection on your ketamine experience, integrative exercises designed to reinforce emerging insights, and personal assignments to practice between sessions. Sessions are available in person at our Charlottesville office or via secure video. The structure is designed to help you make sense of what arose during treatment and translate those experiences into lasting behavioral and psychological change.
Our partnership with the Charlottesville Ketamine Center provides a seamless experience for clients receiving treatment there, but integration therapy is available to anyone receiving ketamine treatment at any provider. The THRIVE framework is designed to support integration regardless of where your ketamine sessions take place.
Ideally, integration work begins as soon as possible after treatment to take full advantage of the window of enhanced neuroplasticity that ketamine opens. We recommend scheduling your first integration session within days of your ketamine treatment. The sooner you begin reflecting on and working with the insights from your experience, the more effectively those new neural pathways can be reinforced and sustained.
